May WOTM week 1

Image
It's a close start to the May competition. We have Deceangli in the lead, but followed closely by harrypalmer and Wrenfoe.  Chrisf and Cinq aren't that far behind, either, so this has all the hallmarks of a close run match.  As week 2 starts it should prove to be a cracker of a competition. Some great posts this week, and some fun tickers too.  I'll leave the ticker archive on the Chat room entry at the end of the month, but if you want to remind yourself about any of the other stuff, see the links below the leaderboard. And here are the FPs and NiBs for the first week: Bobski Paul Nuttall recalls surviving the Boston Floods of 1571 Chrisf Irving Berlin loses job as school careers advisor Cinquecento Jesus Christ endorses ‘miracle worker’ Corbyn Deceangli ‘Abbott Numbers’ set to revolutionise mathematics Capital Gains Tax – the gift that keeps giving Tim Farron’s photo to appear on milk cartons Gerontious Bumble bee may have taken its ow...

April WOTM Final Week

And the winner is... OK, let's see how the week panned out. At the end of week three YaBasta and yours truly were neck and neck.  Then YB subbed a brilliant piece about the science march to be peer reviewed.  Job done, game over, in the lead by one point and that's all it takes. Then the front page was owned by Oxy, harrypalmer and S-Bahn in turn, none challenging the lead, but all turning in fine subs. Then Thursday I found a sub I'd dashed off the night before, more to wind Titus up after I'd had an idea for a ticker that grew into a full blown piece of one thousand year old fake news hit the front page.  Back in the lead. Add that to a slow fake news week and I seem to have ended up at the top of the list, not by much, but it looks like I get the chance to balance the virtual mug on my avatar for the whole of May, unless, of course, KPMG are in charge of issuing the virtual mugs, then it's anyone's guess who will end up with it. Anyway, fix or no fix, h...

April UWOTM Competition Week 3

Well it's been an interesting week - no, I'm not talking about Trump threatening thermonuclear war while steaming in the wrong direction, or even Theresa May springing a no-notice election on us - I'm talking about the ding-dong battle at the top of the leader board between YaBasta and myself. It may not be that obvious from the weekly tally, but being the guy who updates the results daily I've watched myself and the talented YaBasta swap positions at the top, sometimes daily, on at least one occasion this week twice on the same day.  As you can see, we both share top billing at the end of week 3.  I'm not sure how we will resolve a draw, perhaps I'll have to give that some thought.  I don't think Chrisf, harrypalmer, Wrenfoe, underconstruction or the handful just bubbling beneath are by any means out of contention yet - they've all got better chances of topping this board than Corbyn has of surviving as leader of the Labour Party past the end of Jun...
